Solo in Boston

In September, I had the opportunity to explore Boston on my own. It was such an awesome experience.
I started off my trip by grabbing a beer at the Boston Public Market. From there, I walked. Not too far away was Boston’s North End. There are so many fantastic Italian restaurants and bakeries. I enjoyed some good coffee, even better cocktails, and stopped at Modern Pastry Shop (highly recommended by some locals I met) for incredible cannoli.
After my time in North End, I walked over to Union Street and wandered into a tavern that I thought looked cool called Bell in Hand. Turns out, this tavern was established in 1795! Being able to so easily stumble upon historic settings makes Boston the amazing place it is.
The next day, I grabbed breakfast at Cafe Bonjour, and began my trek through the Boston Common and along Freedom Trail. I stood where the Boston Massacre occurred, toured the Old South Meeting House where the Boston Tea Party was organized, and watched some street performances from an outdoor brewery that overlooked a busy part of Downtown Boston.
After wandering for quite a while, I ended up walking right up to Fenway Park, where I enjoyed lunch at a restaurant with views peering into the ballpark.
I ended up my second day with dinner on the water at Pier 6. My table had a perfect view of the skyline.
I covered a lot of ground in just a couple of days, and found some time to get early morning skyline shots on my last day.
After my morning photography session, I toured the incredibly unique Isabella Steward Gardner art museum. I stopped for lunch in the Fenway area and noticed a crowd dressed in Red Sox apparel. I followed everyone, ended up back at Fenway Park, bought a ticket, and walked right in to catch a game before my flight out.
Traveling with friends and family is always fun, but the freedom that comes from traveling solo should not be underestimated. There’s a reason why I wanted to include the sailboat named “Solitude” in the skyline shot. I’m excited to visit Boston again, and for more solo trips in the future!
