The last time I viewed an eclipse, I was living in Nashville and fortunate to be in the path of totality. The experience was incredible. Seeing everything go dark, and hearing crickets and other nocturnal wildlife kick into action was unreal.
While I've come a long way since my time in Nashville, and am happy to be living much closer to the ocean again, I did not have the same experience this time around. Even though I wasn't in a position to see the total eclipse on April 8th, 2024, it was still amazing to see.
I also was able to experience things through a different lens (pun intended). It was a Monday, so I was at work while the eclipse happened, but I bought glasses for my team so we could all pop out at the right time and experience it together. After some last-minute research, I also purchased a K&F Concept 58mm ND1000000 Ultra Dark ND Camera Lens Filter 20-Stops Fixed Neutral Density Filter so I could attempt to get some solid shots.
The filter ended up working great! Me rushing to sneak in some pictures without blinding myself and then getting back to work did not work as well. With that being said, I am still excited to share some of what I captured that day.
I could definitely have spent some more time researching in preparation for the eclipse, but it's a lesson learned. Fortunately, I should have many more years of photography experience under my belt by the next eclipse!
